Chris Carman, our Global Mobility Strategist and Principal Consultant, was invited to address representatives of the health industry in Western Australia last Tuesday to discuss recent changes to the temporary work visa programs and the impact this will have on the health industry in Australia.
Cost effective and streamlined short term work visas are available for overseas trained medical practitioners to undertake non-ongoing positions for up to 6 months in Australia.
The short term work visa allows medical practitioners the ability to mobilise to Australia to undertake highly skilled work for up to 6 months in any 12 month period. This visa pathway bypasses the costly TSS program introduced by the Australian government in March 2018 which is stripping millions of dollars from the health system to fund vocational education programs.
The short term work visa pathway provides a welcome and cost effective option for Australian employers to alleviate immediate skills shortages within Australia’s critically under staffed health system. The visa processing times can take as little as 10 to 20 days to finalise at a fraction of the cost of the TSS visa.
